Behind The Lens: Stone Roses Photographer Kevin Cummins

A couple of months ago, I implored all you Madchester lovin’ types to get yourselves down to The Space at Whiteleys shopping centre in London to cop an eyeball or two at the awesome Stone Roses photographic exposé. You’ve still got a couple of weeks left if you’ve not already caught the exhibition, but meantime, Sonos – yeah, those people who make those lovely wireless HiFi systems – have put together an insightful short about the band’s legendary NME ‘splatter shot’.

The infamous ‘splatter shot’ – the Stone Roses photographed by Kevin Cummins

Inspired by the reckless paint-ridden snap, designer Richard Robinson has cooked up some bespoke splattery Play:3 speakers for Sonos to mark the Stone Roses’ 2012 comeback.

Check out music writer Lois Wilson interviewing photographer Kevin Cummins about how the iconic image came to be, and how its influence has decorated not just a studio floor twenty-odd years ago, but lovely noise systems too…
